Annual Schedule of Internal Tournaments for Full Members
GLTC runs internal tournaments throughout the year. They are organised by the Tournament Committee Sub-Committee.
Club Championships
Finals’ Day: First Saturday in September
Each year a summer tournament takes place it usually runs through the main summer season from April culminating in the final in September. For singles, this includes men’s and ladies’ singles plus a men’s Plate competition. There are also men’s, ladies’ and mixed doubles and a men’s and ladies’ vets doubles (over 40 for ladies, over 45 for men’s)
Partners are drawn on a random basis with simple seedings to ensure the more experienced players are not drawn together. This tournament is on a knockout basisand the format is 2 sets plus a Championship tiebreak if 1 set all
Winter Shield
Finals’ Day: Saturday afternoon 1 week after school Easter break
Takes place over the winter period and is run on a box league basis with semi-finals to follow
The events are men’s, ladies and mixed doubles.
Partners are drawn on a random basis with simple seedings to ensure the more experience players are not drawn together. The playing format is first to 10 games.
Alongside this is a men’s singles knock out competition
Masters
Finals’ Day: Sat late November
This takes place after the summer tournament and ends in November. It is the only tournament where members can pick their partner and is run on a box draw basis. The format is full sets with a championship tiebreak for the third set if the score is one set all
The events are men’s, ladies and mixed doubles.
August Bank Holiday American Tournament
On the Monday Bank Holiday in August GLTC runs an internal tournament in the American Doubles format. Numbers permitting, this is a mixed event running for the duration of the afternoon. All Full Members are welcome to turn up and join in
All Finals’ Afternoons/Days
All Finals’ Days are special events at the Club. Spectators are encouraged, refreshments available and there is always an excellent atmosphere. We are always proud of the number of members and their families who come along to support these events and this reflects well the ethos of the Club as a whole
